About

Knit up is a social enterprise born from the desire to keep children warm with sustainable and ethically made wool accessories.

SCHOOLS

Our snoods, headbands and beanies not only look great as part of the pupils' uniform, they also raise awareness about sustainable and socially responsible fashion amongst young people.
We work with schools to design the accessories that best represent their identity and we advise on how to communicate with children about the making process of fashion and its impact on nature and people.

MATERIALS

Natural wool is naturally warm, biodegradable, breathable and easy to clean.
(Learn more about the benefits of wool on The Campaign for Wool)
Our products are made of 85% Bluefaced Leicester wool supplied by Eden Cottage Yarns, based in West Yorkshire.
We have chosen to use wool from a pure-bred British sheep breed to promote local biodiversity and support local farmers and businesses. There are now 72 pure breeds across the UK including the Bluefaced Leicester sheep
(learn more about native sheep breeds with The Woolist).
The wool we use is 100% mulesing free.
Our labels are made of unbleached cotton and we use recycled paper packaging.

MAKERS

MakerName
Our products are hand made in London by women who face barriers to access training and work. Our objective is to support women by passing on new making skills and create a supportive community. Our makers are paid a London living wage and work flexible hours allowing them to balance work and family life.
In addition to making the snoods, headbands and beanies for Knit up, makers can use our equipment to make accessories for themselves, their families and friends or to start up their own fashion business.

OUR COMMITMENT

Being a social enterprise means a lot to us. We are committed to support others and  create a caring making community where women can grow.
That is why 70% of our prices go to fair pay to our makers and to sustainable materials. With the remaining 30%, we manage all aspects of running a fashion business and we do as much as we can to grow our making community.
